      For the last 15 years, VATA Inc. has provided intravenous, infusion and venipuncture training models based on the nursing community's needs and recommendations for simulators that are affordable, realistic and have the availability of replacement parts.

      The importance of vascular access models continues today, with over 80% of hospitalized patients receiving intravenous therapy. It has become critical in controlling costs to ensure that the competency of all IV staff is assessed, maintained, demonstrated and improved continually.

      Vascular access simulators are acknowledged as the most efficient way to teach staff and assess competency. The question then is who should be the decision maker concerning which vascular access simulators to use? 

     "The Intravenous Nurses Society (INS) believes that registered intravenous nurses in their capacity as end-users of IV products, are the most qualified individuals to participate in purchasing intravenous therapy products for use in their practice settings. With so much focus on cost containment in all health care practice settings today, product purchasing decisions are becoming more complicated and closely scrutinized. The Society recognizes the potential risks and hidden costs of intravenous products purchased by individuals not directly involved in their clinical use."
