What is included with a new Advanced Venipuncture Training Aid™?
The Advanced Venipuncture Training Aid™ includes four blue veins in a semi-transparent, non-staining, "tissue-like" material, reservoir bag with simulated blood, quick disconnect connectors, bubble trap, backing plate that is also used as a cover when not in use and an instruction manual. The 1365/1366 measures, 12" X 5 1/2" X 2 1/4" with the cover on and the bubble trap and simulated blood reservoir bag stored on top of the cover.
Is there anything else I should consider ordering for this model?
If you plan to transport the model from one location to another, there is an Optional Carrying Case 0375, with a pouch for supplies available.
How many "sticks" can this model take?
This model is capable of approximately 3,600 "sticks" based on testing using a 22g needle and moving the point of entry after each "stick".
Will I see a "flashback" when I've properly accessed the vein?
Yes, you will see a "flashback" when you have properly accessed the vein. In addition a "pop" is felt as the needle enters the vein. Some users have found, when using smaller gauge needles, that attaching the blue cap on the bubble trap and placing gentle pressure on the simulated blood bag will result in a more consistent presence of a "flashback". Care must be taken to ensure that the gentle pressure does not cause the simulated blood to leak out of previous "sticks" to the veins.
How do I tell if I'm in the vein?
You will feel a "pop" as the needle enters the vein, followed by observing a "flashback" in the IV catheter.
I've notice a "growth" in the simulated blood bag. What causes this and how can I correct it?
Early models left out in the light can foster a "growth" in the simulated blood. This can be corrected by inserting a large volume syringe into the needleless valve and withdrawing all the fluid. A flush with warm water can also assist in cleaning. Be sure to remove this water before proceeding. The bag can then be filled with fresh simulated blood purchased from VATA, specially formulated to prevent "growth" formation.
What do I use to clean the model?
You can use soap and water or alcohol. The tissue-like material is stain resistant, so cleaning should not be a problem.
Can I put dressings on the model?
Dressings can be placed on the model but due to the non-staining properties of the tissue-like material, adhesion will be minimal.
How should I store the model when not in use?
Drain the simulated blood as described in the User's Manual and place the cover over the tissue pad. DO NOT STORE WITH ITEMS DIRECTLY ON THE TISSUE PAD AS THIS WILL DAMAGE THE PAD.
Is this model available in a darkly pigmented color?
Yes, 1366 is the product number for this model in a darkly pigmented color.
