What is included with a new Peter Picc Line™?
Peter Picc Line™ includes a life size chest, right arm, neck and chin, replaceable body and translucent arm "skins", removable ribs with overlying tissue pad, barely discernable blue arm blue veins, blue body veins, viewable superior vena cava vial, simulated blood fluid bag with attached tubing, User's Manual and durable zippered, padded carrying case with handles and a separate zippered supplies pouch.
Is there anything else I should consider ordering for Peter Picc Line™?
You may want to have a back-up Arm Vein Tubing Set 0601 and an Arm Skin Replacement 0603.
What veins are displayed on Peter Picc Line™?
The basilic, cephalic, median basilic, axillary, jugular, subclavian and superior vena cava veins are displayed.
What anatomical landmarks are present to aid in measuring the length of catheter that should be inserted?
The model is life size with a discernable clavicle, ribs and intercostal spaces.
How do I confirm that the PICC line was inserted properly and the tip is in the SVC?
There is a viewing window between the 2nd and 4th intercostal spaces that permits the viewing of the catheter's tip in the SVC.
Can I demonstrate the technique of turning the chin down and toward the arm that is being accessed on Peter Picc Line™?
Yes, the chin on Peter Picc Line™ can be rotated to the proper position to prevent the PICC line from traveling up into the jugular.
Does this Peter Picc Line™ use simulated blood like the rest of your models?
The use of simulated blood is not recommended in this model because it can make it too difficult to view the tip of the PICC line in the SVC.
I've tried inserting a PICC line with no fluid in the veins and can only advance so far and then the PICC stops. Why won't it advance all the way?
The model must be properly primed with water to allow the PICC to advance the full distance. See the next question for additional information.
I've primed the model with water and still cannot advance the PICC line the full distance. Why won't it advance all the way?
Peter Picc Line™ must be primed in the upright position, described in the instruction manual. If not primed properly, air will be present in the veins and the PICC Line tip will adhere to the vein wall where air is present. To check if air is present, follow these steps: a) Hold the model in an upright position (the neck being the tallest point) with the front facing towards you. b) Slowly rotate the body in a counter clockwise motion until the neck is the lowest point. c) While maintaining this position, look in the clear plastic viewing vial on the left side to see if air is present. d) If air is present, return to a flat surface with the neck again the highest point. e) Open the white snap clamp on the clear tubing exiting the top of neck. f) Next, elevate the fluid bag until a column of water appears in the clear tubing and immediately close the white snap clamp. The model is now properly primed and may be laid flat on its "back". Some customers have reported that adding a couple drops of clear dish soap in the liquid used to prime Peter Picc Line™ helps in advancing the PICC.
I've had difficulty advancing my PICC line using the proper priming instruction. What am I doing wrong?
Due to the softness of some PICC's, the introducer will need to be left in place when advancing the PICC line. The property of the veins that helps to seal them after the catheter is removed is too tight for some PICCs to overcome.
What do I use to clean the model?
You can use soap and water or alcohol to clean the model.
Can I put dressings on the Peter Picc Line™?
Dressings can be placed on the model but should not be left on overnight.
How do I remove residual adhesive?
You can use any adhesive remover normally used on a patient to remove residual adhesive.
Are replacement parts available?
Yes, all components on the model are available.
Do you offer a refurbishing service for this model?
Yes, contact VATA customer service for instructions.
Is this model available in a darkly pigmented color?
